EST practice for Egypt & MENA

The EST (Egyptian Scholastic Test) is a SAT-style standardised test built specifically for the American Diploma track in Egypt. It lets students qualify for admission to Egyptian higher-education institutions, much as the SAT does abroad.

There are two tests: EST I (the general reasoning test, comparable to the SAT) and EST II (subject tests in Math Level 2, Physics, Chemistry and Biology). EST I is the one most students need first, and Scoremojo now runs EST II subject mocks too — see below.

EST I has 154 multiple-choice questions across four scored sections — two Literacy (Language Usage and Reading) and two Math (one without a calculator, one with) — plus an optional essay. English is scored out of 800 and Math out of 800, for a total out of 1600.

Crucially, EST I is linear: every student sees the same fixed set of questions in the same order. There is no adaptive routing, which makes pacing and accuracy across the whole paper the main game.

Beyond EST I, Egyptian universities require EST II subject tests for many science and engineering majors. EST II is a set of single-subject tests — Math Level 2, Physics, Chemistry and Biology — each scored 200–800, and Scoremojo now runs a timed practice mock for every one.

If you are applying to Egyptian universities, the EST is the test most of them accept and expect. If you are also applying abroad, you will likely need the Digital SAT as well, since few non-Egyptian universities recognise the EST.

The content overlaps heavily — both test reading, writing/language, and math reasoning — so most of your preparation counts for both. The main differences are that the SAT is digital and adaptive while the EST is paper-style and linear.

Because EST I is linear and time-pressured, full-length timed practice is the highest-value preparation: it builds the stamina and pacing to finish all 154 questions accurately. Drill the no-calculator math section separately — it is where careless arithmetic costs the most.
