What is the ACT?

The ACT is a US college-admissions test scored on a 1–36 scale. After the 2025 enhancement, the scored core is three sections — English, Math and Reading — totalling 131 questions in 125 minutes, with Science and Writing offered as optional add-ons.

Your composite score is the average of the English, Math and Reading scores. The optional Science section contributes to a separate STEM score rather than the composite.

What changed in the enhanced 2025 ACT?

The enhanced ACT is shorter, Science became optional, and the Math section moved from five answer choices to four. The core test you need for a composite score is now English + Math + Reading only.

For most students in Egypt and MENA, that means preparation should centre on those three sections first; add Science only if a target university or scholarship asks for it.

  • English: 50 questions, 35 minutes
  • Math: 45 questions, 50 minutes, 4 answer choices
  • Reading: 36 questions, 40 minutes
  • Science & Writing: optional

ACT vs SAT for students in Egypt

Both are accepted by US and many international universities, so the choice usually comes down to fit. The ACT is fast-paced and straightforward; the Digital SAT is adaptive and shorter overall. Try a timed section of each and pick the format where you score and feel better.

Whichever you choose, full-length timed practice is what builds the pacing the ACT demands — its sections give you little time per question.

How is the ACT scored?
