EST Exam Egypt: Complete Guide for American Diploma Students
The EST (Egyptian Scholastic Test) is the standard admissions test for American Diploma students applying to Egyptian universities. EST I has 135 questions across English and Math sections, scores to 1600, and is taken at centres across Egypt several times a year.
What is the EST exam?
The EST — Egyptian Scholastic Test — is the admissions test used by Egyptian universities for students who completed an American Diploma (or equivalent international curriculum). It is analogous in structure and scoring to the SAT: two main sections (English and Math), each scored to 800, for a total of 1600.
There are two types: EST I tests general reasoning in English and Math and is the test most students take for university admissions. EST II tests individual subjects (Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and is required by specific programmes. This guide focuses on EST I.
What are the EST I sections and how long is the test?
EST I has four timed sections totalling 135 multiple-choice questions:
- Literacy — Module 1: 35 questions, 30 minutes
- Literacy — Module 2: 25 questions, 30 minutes
- Literacy — Module 3: 25 questions, 30 minutes
- Math: 50 questions, 75 minutes (calculator allowed)
Is the EST adaptive like the Digital SAT?
No. EST I is linear — every student answers the same 135 questions in the same fixed order. This is a meaningful difference from the Digital SAT, which adapts between modules based on your performance. On the EST you cannot be routed to harder or easier questions mid-test.
Because the test is fixed, pacing strategy is straightforward: move question by question within each timed section, flag anything uncertain, and return to it before time is called.
When and where is the EST held in Egypt?
The EST is offered several times a year at authorised test centres across Egypt. Registration, test dates, and the list of centres are published at egypt.estests.com. Check the calendar well in advance — seats fill up in popular test windows.
Score requirements for university admission vary by institution and faculty. Always verify the specific threshold with the university you are applying to, as requirements differ and can change between intake years.
How should you prepare for the EST exam?
Because the EST is linear and fixed, the most effective preparation combines content review with full-length timed practice under real conditions. Doing isolated drills without simulating full test timing is one of the most common preparation mistakes.
Scoremojo offers full-length EST mocks built with exam-standard items and blind-verified answer keys that match EST I format and timing exactly. After each mock, instant auto-scoring gives you a practice score and a per-topic breakdown showing exactly where you lost points. Try daily sample practice questions first; ongoing access is a monthly per-track subscription (current prices are on the pricing page).
