EST
EST vs SAT in Egypt: Which Test Do You Actually Need?
If you are applying to Egyptian universities, take the EST — it is the SAT-style test they accept. If you are applying abroad, take the Digital SAT. Students applying to both usually sit both, and because the content overlaps, most preparation counts for either.
What is the difference between the EST and the SAT?
The EST (Egyptian Scholastic Test) is accepted by Egyptian universities for American Diploma students. The Digital SAT is accepted by universities abroad and is required for most international applications. Both test reading, writing and language, and math reasoning — and both are scored on a 400–1600 scale.
The biggest structural difference: the Digital SAT is computer-adaptive (two modules per section, second module adjusts to your performance) and sits on the Bluebook app. EST I is linear and fixed — every student answers the same 135 questions in the same order at a test centre.
Which test should you take?
The answer depends entirely on where you plan to apply. If your targets are Egyptian universities, the EST is the test they expect for American Diploma admissions. If you are applying to universities outside Egypt, you will need the Digital SAT (or ACT). If you are applying to both, you will likely sit both tests.
The good news: the content domains — critical reading, grammar and usage, algebra and advanced math — are nearly identical. Study you do for one transfers almost fully to the other.
- Egyptian universities → EST I
- Universities abroad → Digital SAT
- Applying to both → sit both; most prep overlaps
How are the two tests structured?
EST I has 135 questions over 165 minutes: three Literacy modules (35, 25 and 25 questions, 30 minutes each) and Math (50 questions, 75 minutes). English and Math each scale to 800 for a total of 1600.
The Digital SAT runs 98 questions in 2 hours 14 minutes, with two adaptive modules per section. Both Reading/Writing and Math are scored on a combined 800-point scale, summing to 1600.
How does Scoremojo help with EST and Digital SAT prep?
Scoremojo offers EST I past papers and 11 official College Board linear paper-version SAT tests (120 questions, 2h 44m each), with answer keys checked before publication. After each mock, you get instant auto-scoring with a per-topic breakdown so you know exactly where to focus next.
Start with the free official EST I sample. If you decide to continue, a monthly subscription per exam track is available (current prices are on the pricing page). Because EST and Digital SAT content overlaps heavily, many students use both tracks together.
Frequently asked questions
Do Egyptian universities accept the Digital SAT instead of the EST?
Most Egyptian universities expect the EST for American Diploma admissions. Some programmes may accept the Digital SAT, but you should confirm directly with the specific university. The EST is the safe default for Egyptian admissions.
Is the EST harder than the SAT?
The content and scoring scale (1600) are similar. The EST is linear and fixed while the Digital SAT is adaptive, but overall difficulty is comparable. The key difference is which universities accept each test, not which one is easier.
Can I prepare for the EST and Digital SAT at the same time?
Yes — and it is efficient. The reading, grammar, and math content overlaps substantially. The main adjustment is switching between linear EST timing and the adaptive Bluebook format, which you can practise in Bluebook alongside Scoremojo’s linear paper-version SAT tests.
