EST Score Conversion: How Your Raw Score Becomes Your 1600 Score
Each EST I section (English and Math) is scored on a raw-to-scaled conversion table published by EST, scaling each to 800 for a total of 1600. Official conversion tables are released by EST itself — no third-party table is authoritative.
How does EST scoring work?
EST I produces two section scores — an English score and a Math score — each scaled from 200 to 800. These two scores are added together for a total composite score of 400 to 1600. There is no penalty for wrong answers; only correct answers count toward your raw score.
Within each section, your raw score is the number of questions you answered correctly. That raw score is then converted to the 200–800 scale using an equating table. Equating adjusts for minor difficulty differences between test administrations, so a score of, say, 680 means the same level of performance regardless of which test date you sat.
What is the raw-to-scaled conversion table?
There is no single fixed conversion table — EST releases equating tables that may vary slightly between test administrations to account for differences in question difficulty. The only authoritative source for conversion tables is EST itself at egypt.estests.com.
This matters practically: do not rely on a third-party raw-to-scaled table circulating online, because it may not match the equating applied to your specific test date. Use your official score report and the materials released by EST for the most accurate picture.
How are English and Math sections structured for scoring?
The Literacy score (out of 800) covers three modules: 35, 25 and 25 questions, with 30 minutes per module.
Math (out of 800) has 50 questions in 75 minutes, with a calculator allowed. Literacy and Math combine for the 1600 total.
What EST score do Egyptian universities require?
Score requirements vary by university and by major — there is no single universal cut-off. Competitive engineering and medicine programmes at leading universities typically demand higher scores than other faculties, but the specific threshold is set by each institution.
Always check the admissions requirements published directly by the university you are targeting. Requirements can also change from one intake to the next, so verify for the current academic year.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a penalty for wrong answers on the EST?
No. EST I uses rights-only scoring — only correct answers count. You should answer every question, even when you are unsure, because a blank and a wrong answer are worth the same: zero.
Does the EST essay affect my 1600 score?
No. The optional essay is scored separately and does not factor into your English or composite score. Check whether your target universities require or recommend the essay before deciding whether to sit it.
Where can I find the official EST score conversion table?
Official scoring and equating information is published by EST at egypt.estests.com. Any third-party conversion table may not reflect the actual equating applied to your test date, so always refer to the official source.
