Digital SAT Math Practice: Topics, Tips, and How to Use Desmos

What topics appear on Digital SAT Math?

Digital SAT Math covers four broad domains: Algebra (linear equations, systems, inequalities), Advanced Math (quadratics, polynomials, exponential functions), Problem-Solving & Data Analysis (ratios, percentages, statistics, probability), and Geometry & Trigonometry (area, volume, right triangles, basic trig ratios).

Algebra and Advanced Math together account for roughly half the questions. If you are short on study time, prioritising those two domains will have the highest score impact.

• Algebra: linear equations in one/two variables, linear functions, systems
• Advanced Math: quadratics, polynomials, equivalent expressions
• Problem-Solving & Data Analysis: ratios, rates, percentages, two-variable data
• Geometry & Trigonometry: area/volume, right triangles, circles, trig

How does the adaptive structure affect Math practice?

The Math section is split into two 22-question modules of 35 minutes each. Module 1 is the same for everyone; your accuracy on it routes you to an easier or harder Module 2. Only the harder Module 2 path unlocks the full 200–800 Math score.

In practice this means you need to be reliable — not just occasionally brilliant — in Module 1. Careless errors on straightforward algebra questions hurt your routing more than missing one hard Module 2 problem.

When should you use Desmos — and when should you not?

A built-in Desmos graphing calculator is available on every Math question. It is powerful for graphing systems of equations, finding intersection points, and checking quadratic roots — tasks that would take 60–90 seconds by hand.

For simple arithmetic, one-step linear equations, or percentage calculations, opening Desmos actually costs time. Practise identifying the 20–25% of questions where Desmos gives a genuine speed advantage and go mental-math or scratch-paper for the rest.

• Use Desmos for: graphing two equations to find an intersection, roots of a quadratic, checking a table of values
• Skip Desmos for: single-variable linear equations, basic fraction arithmetic, unit conversions
• Always practise with Desmos open so you are comfortable on test day

How should you practise Digital SAT Math efficiently?

Start each study cycle with a full adaptive mock to identify which domain is costing you Module 2 routing. Then drill that domain in isolation — 20–30 questions timed, without Desmos, to build speed — before re-testing with Desmos available.

Scoremojo's Digital SAT mock auto-scores by topic and shows you your per-domain accuracy, so you can see whether you are dropping points in Algebra or Advanced Math specifically rather than just seeing a Math section total.

What are the most common Math mistakes to fix first?

Sign errors in multi-step algebra and misreading word problems (setting up the wrong equation) account for a large share of Module 1 mistakes in practice data. Both are fixable with deliberate slow read-and-check habits rather than more content study.

Forgetting that no wrong-answer penalty exists is another costly mistake. On hard Module 2 questions where you are unsure, always enter your best guess before time is called.

• Read the question stem twice before writing anything
• Write out each step — do not skip algebra steps in your head
• Guess on every unanswered question before time expires
